Fonterra has been a long term supporter of Share the Road providing trucks and drivers for our workshops across the country. Gene Watene is a Fonterra driver based in Tamaki Makaurau who supported a number of events over the past 2 years with all kinds of cycling groups. Auckland’s Tamaki Yacht Club has become a beautiful backdrop for school road cycling teams, their coaches, and parents to participate in Share the Road truck Blindzone workshops and demonstrations. We have had up to 60 participants at some of these with a number of schools committing to running the Blindzone Workshops annually for both new and experienced riders.
Read MoreNearly 3,000 drivers and 3,500 cyclists have attended Share the Road workshops that enabled them to understand each other's situation on the road. 86% of drivers agreed, or strongly agreed that the workshop increased the likelihood they would follow and pass cyclists more safely and be more patient with them riding out from the curb. 84% of cyclists agreed, or strongly agreed the Blindzone workshop they attended increased the chance of them controlling their bike well, riding to be seen, choosing safe routes & having a better understanding of heavy vehicle blindzones.
