presentations and engagement

Communicating the messages that will lead to better road user behaviour is a job that’s done in many ways.

Through networks developed within the truck and bus industries, and in cycling communities, Share the road delivers both our safety messages and the lessons we’ve learnt from our work:

  • To our supportive and expert stakeholder groups, from Government, industry and other sectors;

  • To the transport sector, at conferences and meetings through the year;

  • In regular meetings where we organise workshops or refine and assess our workshop content;

  • To the mass and social media.

Listening, of course, is crucial, and we keep our ears open when attending events and meetings, as well as at overseas conferences.

The Café Cruisers are an Auckland-based bunch of older leisure cyclists who meet together several times a week for social riding. Our main rides are on Saturdays and we usually have 20-30 riders. Kelvin Aris arranged a Share the Road event for us. The group engaged in it enthusiastically and afterwards the response was completely positive. They commented on how interesting and fun it was but also many people remarked to me how much more aware they were of hazards from heavy vehicles. Like myself, they were just unaware how difficult it is for truck drivers to see cyclists. I am sure the event has resulted in better, safer riding practices in the group. We have already arranged to repeat the event next year.
